Chipmunk Punk is a place for visionaries, changemakers, and risk takers.
As a Chipmunk Punk client, you will be guided through a culturally competent process to embrace your power while growing your leadership and nonprofit management skills.
Chipmunk Punk Approach
The Chipmunk Punk approach to coaching was created by founder Ginny Giles and rooted in the fact that each of us is part of an ecosystem and community. Based on her experience coaching countless nonprofit leaders, Ginny developed practices that support the well-being, growth, and development of people who are driving social change.
In stories, chipmunks are often carrying messages between the gods and sometimes they are tricksters creatively challenging the cultural norms. Chipmunks move comfortably between worlds by simultaneously being present in the now and preparing for the future. This grounded adaptability is key for any person working for social change.
The Chipmunk Punk approach embraces your natural rebellious nature and provides tools and practices to help you live an enjoyable life, all while you challenge the status quo.
Chipmunk Punk coaches pair traditional leadership coaching with practical nonprofit skill building in areas such as:
fundraising
marketing + PR
board governance
strategic planning
team management
change management

FAQs
-
Chipmunk Punk Coaches combine nonprofit management skill building with leadership development. Each client identifies approximately 2-3 professional goals that will be the focus of their coaching sessions. Chipmunk Punk coaching is not a substitute for professional mental or physical health professionals. Chipmunk Punk coaches do not provide legal or financial advice and may refer clients to other professionals as needed.
-
Chipmunk Punk Coaches are a diverse group of coaches that operate through a lens of equity and justice. This lens is core to the experience and values of each coach, making it inseparable from who we are. As described on the website, each coach utilizes a set of practices in their personal life to care for their wellbeing. These practices are taught to our clients as needed.
-
As a Chipmunk Punk Coaching client, you will have access to the expertise and experience of the entire team. Your coach may consult other coaches to provide you with the best guidance and information. Once a year, you may also have an additional coach join you and your coach for a full session at no additional cost.
Chipmunk Punk occasionally offers free group trainings for our coaching clients. When multiple clients are facing similar obstacles, we will offer a free targeted group training to help clients learn from a variety of coaches and from each other.
Coaching clients may also receive discounts on trainings for their staff or board and priority in scheduling larger consulting contracts through Community Equip’d.
-
The biggest indicator of success is the rapport between the client and coach. Establishing trust and a sense of camaraderie will set the stage for the client to learn and grow.
-
Most coaching clients are seeking to make a change, build a new skill, and/or build a new habit. This takes time. Typically, we see clients make significant progress after 9-12 months. New clients should expect to invest this amount of time into reaching their goals. We do not set a minimum or maximum number of sessions.
-
Item descriptionThe frequency of the sessions is typically determined by the client. One session a month or one session every three weeks is the best fit for most clients. This provides enough time for the client to complete tasks in between sessions. Many of our clients are very busy and monthly sessions fit well into their schedule.
-
There is not a set length for each coaching session. We prefer to let each session end naturally so there is a feeling of completion and accomplishment each time. Typically, the first session is the longest at around 2 hours. After that, sessions tend to be from 1 – 1.5 hours. Once the session is consistently under 1 hour that is a sign that the client no longer needs the coach and is ready to move on. Occasionally, a client may have a specific question for their coach that they want to email or have a quick phone call. This is very normal and can be arranged directly with your coach.
-
Coaching is billed in 15-minute increments at an hourly rate of $300. Some of our coaches have a limited number of sliding scale fee slots based on your organization’s annual budget. Fees are incurred for the full coaching session and in 15-minute increments for email conversations (not related to scheduling) and phone calls in between sessions. Invoices are emailed on the first of every month and all payments are made electronically. If a payment becomes overdue all coaching services end immediately until all outstanding payments are made in full.
-
We understand that life happens and sometimes coaching sessions need to be cancelled or rescheduled. A 48-hour notice is required to cancel a session. A $50 late cancellation/rescheduling fee will be charged if less than 48 hours’ notice is given
